Sitting right on the edge of Loch Lomond, The Cruin is a venue with one big advantage, the view.
Step outside and you’ve got open water, distant hills, and a sense of space that very few other venues can match. I’ve photographed dozens of weddings here over the years and it’s still one of the most relaxed and photogenic places to get married in Scotland. It also specialises in outdoor ceremonies, and with that backdrop it’s hard to think of anywhere else that does it better.
Whether you’re planning a laid back lochside ceremony or a full day of food, dancing and fireworks, The Cruin lets you do it your way.

Steven and Julia had their wedding at the Cruin – this is what they said….
This process was so easy and natural it blew our minds, because we live in Germany and arranging meetings was a wee bit more complex but Stuart was so accommodating with any and all of our requests. He was professional, caring and really passionate about giving us what we wanted from our Wedding.
The experience working with Stuart was incredible and fun. First of all we had an initial meeting, in which we could see our different photo album options and just get to know Stuart.
We knew right away we were in good hands. Words simply don’t express the emotion you feel when you look at the pictures: All the joy and love can be seen in all of the pictures … Truly, it was perfect, just perfect!
The Cruin feels a little bit like your own private lochside hideout.
The ceremony room opens straight onto the terrace. The terrace overlooks the loch. And beyond that — well, it’s just you, your guests, and the view. The staff there are always on point too. David and the team there know weddings and know how to put a fantastic, memorable and personal day together – they are brilliant to work with.
It’s an easy space to move through, which helps the whole day feel unhurried. From prep to portraits, it’s all right there — no long car rides or disappearing acts. You’ll spend more time with your guests and less time being whisked away.
The layout also works brilliantly for photography with natural light in the ceremony and reception spaces, your own (iconic) private jetty, sheltered grounds away from the (sometimes breezy) loch, and plenty room for candid moments without disappearing into the wild. Did I mention the view?
It’s not flashy. It’s not trying to be a castle. It’s just one of those venues that gets it right.
Top tips for getting married at the Cruin
Most couples get ready nearby — usually in The Cruin’s own lodges. I cannot recommend this highly enough, especially for summer weddings. The A82 that leads to Loch Lomond from Glasgow is very popular. Take the strain off the day and start within the footprint of the venue – your blood pressure is going to be high enough on the day.
The ceremony usually happens early afternoon, in the main function room, or outside if the weather allows – you can make a decision on the day, right up until about 2 hours before the ceremony.
Afterwards, you’ve got space to mingle with drinks and canapés on the terrace, take a short photo walk down by the jetty, and sneak away for 15 minutes of golden hour light after dinner.
It’s relaxed. No fuss. No drama. Just a good rhythm to the day, and a setting that always delivers.
Frequently Asked Questions – Weddings at the Cruin
Q: Can we have our wedding ceremony outside at The Cruin on Loch Lomond? Yes — in fact, The Cruin is one of the only wedding venues in Scotland where an outdoor lochside ceremony is the default plan. The team make a final call on the day based on weather, and if it moves indoors, the main room still has natural light and a clean, uncluttered backdrop for beautiful photographs.
Q: Do we need permission for wedding photos by the loch and jetty? Nope! One of the biggest advantages of The Cruin for wedding photography is how quick and easy it is to reach the loch, jetty, and surrounding views – it belongs to the venue! So, no disappearing for hours — we can create stunning portraits in minutes so you can spend more time with your guests.
Q: What’s the rain plan for weddings at The Cruin? We plan for sunshine but prepare for classic Loch Lomond weather. The Cruin’s indoor ceremony and reception spaces photograph beautifully, and I’m always looking for a dry window to step outside. The location is often sheltered enough to give us breaks in the weather for a few lochside shots.
Q: Have you photographed weddings at The Cruin before? Many times. I know the light, the best angles, and how the day flows — whether it’s high summer or a winter wedding. That experience means I can work quickly and unobtrusively, capturing every moment without keeping you away from the celebrations.
Q: I confess, I am not mad keen on the water and am afraid of falling off the jetty! I’ll never ask you to go further than you’re comfortable with, and we can create beautiful lochside photographs without stepping too far onto the jetty. If you’re happy to, we’ll take it slow and safe — and for the record, no one has ever fallen in on my watch!
If you’re planning your day at The Cruin — or even just considering it — I’d love to hear what you’ve got in mind. I know the venue well, and I’m always happy to offer advice, timelines, or quiet encouragement along the way.
