a Complete Guide to your Scottish wedding Photography

If you’re planning your wedding in Scotland, you’ve made a wonderful choice. As a Scottish wedding photographer, I’ve travelled from Ayrshire to the Isles, and there’s nowhere quite like it — ancient castles, wild coastlines, and light that feels made for photography. Every venue brings its own mix of history, hospitality and that perfectly unpredictable Scottish weather that makes each celebration unique.

Scottish Wedding Venues

If Loch Lomond is where I feel at home, then the rest of Scotland is where I (creatively) stretch my legs.
Over the years I’ve photographed weddings from Ayrshire to Argyll, Edinburgh to the Isles — each one with that unmistakable mix of landscape, heritage and warmth that only Scotland manages to pull off.

This page brings together a few of my favourite venues for couples planning something a little further afield. They’re places that photograph beautifully, run seamlessly, and attract couples who love the idea of a wedding with real atmosphere and a touch of adventure.

Below are a few of the venues I know well. I’ve included some personal notes and links to pages where you can see real weddings, tips, and FAQs for each one. I also have guides for Glasgow Wedding Venues and Loch Lomond Weddings listed in the menu/ click the link.

Bride and groom hug in front of bright red ivy at Carlowrie Castle– 1500 Photography

Carlowrie Castle

Modern luxury wrapped inside historic walls. Carlowrie is all clean lines, chic interiors and immaculate service — ideal for design-minded couples who still want that castle backdrop. The slinkiest (sexiest ?) wedding venue in Scotland.

Couple embrace in the hidden secret mirrored chapel at Mount Stuart House– 1500 Photography

Mount Stuart

A dream venue in every sense. Mount Stuart is extraordinary — stained glass, marble, secret chapels and the feeling that you’re somewhere genuinely rare. I don’t shoot here often, but when I do, its so special. If your Scottish wedding is old school grandeur – look no further.

Ayrshire and the West

Below, I have also listed below some of my favourite venues to work out. Some I have worked at many times – some I have only visited once. Regardless they either blew me away with their client service or were just a joy to photograph. Happy to provide an extended portfolio on any of these venues.

Old Castle Rowallan Castle with the couple standing at the entrance steps– 1500 Photography

Rowallan Castle

Rowallan feels like a secret. Two stunning castles (yes really!), dramatic Ayrshire skies and a team who make everything effortless. It’s elegant without being stiff. One of my favourite places for a wedding in Scotland.

Ayrshire wedding venue Brig O'doon with the couple posing in the gardens– 1500 Photography

Brig O’Doon

A mainstay on the Scottish Wedding scene since… forever really. The bridge and those gardens, it’s a venue that wears its history proudly. Perfect for couples who want that little bit of grandeur and a wild party at night.

Lochside House

For couples planning a Scottish Wedding some venues can almost put the entire day together for you. Like Lochside House. A venue where modern comfort meets lochside views and big sunsets, with an award winning wedding team on hand.

Out of town Glasgow & Edinburgh

Cornhill Castle – Biggar

Ok – here me out. Glasgow city centre to Cornhill Castle? 55 minutes. Thats about the same amount of time to get to Loch Lomond or Ayrshire from the city centre. So what has Cornhill Castle got that means I would add this to me list? In a nutshell superb attentive staff, great views to Tinto Hill and a very nice function area. Definitely worth adding to your venue shortlist.

Norton House Hotel (Edinburgh)

Elegant hotel setting with great light and gardens that are made for portraits. Trust me this venue is a hidden gem with one or two very special spots for pictures. (like this one -> )

Fife & the East Coast

Pratis Barns

Rustic barns are popular, candlelight and open countryside; But Pratis gets it right every time. Relaxed, natural and endlessly photogenic, with fantastic views over the Forth.

Errol Park Estate

Everything about this venue is a WOW. Tree-lined drives, gorgeous interiors, beautiful gardens and so many photo oppertunities, no matter the season. This is a stunning venue.

The Bryre at Inchyra

A walled garden, perfect surrounding and a barn built for party. You need to add this venue to your shortlist. Side note : I have a good track record working here and getting fantastic weather (just saying).

Quick FAQ on Scottish Wedding Photography

Where do you photograph weddings in Scotland?
I work across the country — from Ayrshire and Glasgow to Edinburgh, Fife and the islands. Castles, barns or beaches, I’ll help you plan timings and light for the best possible photos.

Do you travel for Scottish weddings?
Yes. Travel within central Scotland is included, and I can quote for the Highlands and islands. We’ll keep it simple and transparent (for example – if you book Mount Stewart, I need to book a (cheap) B&B due to the ferry timings and possible disruption)

How much does Scottish wedding photography cost?
My pricing starts on the Wedding Pricing page. Tell me your plan and I’ll recommend coverage that fits, without upselling things you don’t need. If you are coming from overseas I can pre-order albums or display boxes and make sure that post wedding, all the images are available online.

Can we see full wedding galleries from these venues?
Of course. Send me your venue and I’ll share full-day galleries so you can see how I photograph a wedding from morning to dancefloor and everything in between.

If have any questions at – even if its nothing to do with photography – dont hesitate to get in touch.
