Your Complete Guide to A Glasgow Wedding

Glasgow has always done weddings a little differently. It’s historical, elegant, a little unpredictable, super friendly and always welcoming.

Which is exactly why I, as a Glasgow Wedding Photographer – love shooting here.

Glasgow is a photographer’s dream. Victorian architecture, modern design, leafy parks and beautifully diffused light (you might call it ‘clouds’, photographers call it perfect light!) . You can have your ceremony in a historic building, wander down for portraits in the West End, and still make it back for a wild party or a sophisticated cocktail reception before sunset. I’ve photographed weddings all over Glasgow, and it’s one of the most rewarding cities in Scotland to work in — full of character, texture, and stories around every corner.

This city has atmosphere and character in abundance. Every image has a sense of place, undeniably Scottish, unmistakably you.

Glasgow Wedding Venues

Glasgow has incredible wedding venues; some established over many decades, some brand new, some repurposed mansions or halls of industry all ready to bring your vision to life.

Whether it’s a grand, glamorous wedding in the luxurious The Corinthian, a McIntosh inspired wedding at House for an Art Lover, or you are channelling Hogwarts at Glasgow University – the city has a character all its own. The architecture, the energy, the ever-changing light — it all makes for stunning, timeless images that still feel like you.

I’ve been photographing weddings across Glasgow all my career, from Bearsden & the West End to Pollok Park and the South Side (and everywhere in between). Every wedding tells its own story, but they all share one thing in common: that unmistakable Glasgow warmth. Looking further afield? The Corinthian

One of the cities most iconic venues and a personal favourite.
The Corinthian is that perfect mixture of old school Glasgow glamour and city centre chic, with astonishing architectural flourishes. Right in the heart of the town, this is everything you think of when you think Glasgow Wedding.

Glasgow University

There’s a reason everyone calls it Hogwarts. The University of Glasgow is one of the most atmospheric wedding locations in the country — vaulted cloisters, sweeping staircases and gothic arches that look spectacular in every season. This is Glasgow at its most cinematic.

House for an Art Lover

Designed in the spirit of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, House for an Art Lover is pure creativity — elegant lines, soft light, and details that make every image feel composed and balanced. A dream for anyone who appreciates design, and one of the most distinctive venues in the city.

Boclair House

The red sandstone exterior and sweeping steps make a grand first impression, while inside you’ll find a very modern styling . It’s ideal if you want the luxury of a city venue with the calm of a country setting…

One Devonshire Gardens

Tucked away in the West End, One Devonshire Gardens offers an intimate, refined setting with impeccable service. It’s less a hotel and more a series of connected Victorian townhouses, each full of character and style. The warm tones, beautiful suites and quiet garden corners make it perfect for smaller, luxurious weddings where every detail matters. You can see one of my all time favourite One Devonshire Gardens weddings here on my blog

Sloans

Sloans is Glasgow’s oldest bar and ballroom — a genuine hidden gem in the heart of the city. It’s quirky, characterful and packed with history, from the tiled courtyard to the twinkling lights upstairs. I love shooting weddings here because it feels alive: laughter spilling from every corner, music drifting through the rooms, and that unmistakable Glasgow energy that makes the day feel like a proper celebration. And dont get me started on the macaroni….

Pollok House & Park

A Georgian mansion set within (the stunning) Pollok Country Park, Pollok House offers stately charm without the stuffiness. Oak staircases, portrait-lined walls and river views make it an elegant backdrop for classic wedding photography, while the gardens are perfect for relaxed portraits. It’s a slice of heritage just minutes from the city, and it never fails to deliver beautiful, timeless images.

Ingliston Country Club

Set on a hillside overlooking the Clyde, Ingliston Country Club combines sweeping views and a warm welcome. The grounds are vast, the stables are immaculate, and the sunsets can be incredible.

It’s ideal for couples who want a relaxed, contemporary feel — a blend of luxury and countryside escape.

Dalmeny Park

Dalmeny Park is one of those rare venues that feels grand yet unpretentious. The gardens are stunning in summer and the food and drink are first class.

It’s close enough to the city to be convenient, yet tucked away enough to feel private and calm. For couples who want classic romance with modern style, it’s a lovely balance.

Your Complete Guide to Getting Married in Glasgow FAQs

Is Glasgow easy for guests to get to?
Absolutely. With two main train stations, a major airport just 20 minutes away, and excellent motorway links, Glasgow’s one of the easiest Scottish Wedding locations to get to. Whether your friends are coming from Edinburgh or further afield, transport and parking are rarely a problem.

Are there good places to stay nearby?
Plenty. From five-star hotels like One Devonshire Gardens and boutique AirB&Bs with lots of Travelodges and Premier Inns, your guests will have no shortage of options — all within easy reach of most venues. Many couples even make a weekend of it, exploring the city before and after the wedding.

Where are the best photo spots in Glasgow?
That’s the beauty of this city — there’s no shortage. The cloisters at the University of Glasgow, Kelvingrove Park, Merchant City lanes, Royal Exchange Square, (and even Buchanan Street if you are brave – see below) or the quiet courtyards around the West End all work beautifully for portraits. You can mix grand architecture with little moments tucked away from the crowds.

Can we mix traditional and modern styles in our day?
Glasgow is made for it. You can say your vows in a centuries-old building, celebrate in a glass-roofed ballroom or rooftop bar, and still have time for relaxed portraits in the park. The blend of history and contemporary design gives you endless creative possibilities — and photographs that feel truly unique to the city.
