Inside a Wedding at Loch Lomond Arms
Some wedding venues feel like destinations in their own right.
Set right in the middle of Luss, it’s a place with warmth and character, just far enough away from the hubbub of a busy summer’s day, yet within walking distance of some of the most charming views in Scotland.
If Luss is ‘home’ for your wedding, the Loch Lomond Arms feels like your favourite room in the house.
From my point of view, that changes how the day feels, you can either create your own little wedding bubble or make your way through the village to Luss pier and explore Loch Lomond.

If you’re looking for the wow factor with your wedding, few things tee it up better than a drive along the side of Loch Lomond to the Loch Lomond Arms. Getting to the venue already puts me, as the photographer, in the zone – either noticing the colours, the views or how calm or ‘exciting’ the water on the loch is.
Depending on the time of year, Luss can be a quiet, beautiful Scottish village with a real sense of history – bordering on movie set, or a bustling tourist destination with day trippers and world travellers alike taking in the views.
When I arrive, it’s always a warm hello from the wedding team there who I regard as friends.
I will check over with the team which rooms or lodges the wedding party are getting ready in. It’s not unusual to have the bride in the hotel and the groom in the lodges behind the hotel. All within 500 yards, it means I can check in with the boys (and gee them up if necessary) and capture all the bridal prep as required.

What you find is that the lodges automatically give you that feeling of countryside and scenery whereas the hotel feels hunting lodge and elegance but together but together they have an undeniable sense of ‘Scottish-ness’ Not in a performative way but in a way that serves a real sense of place.
After the prep pictures, the ceremony is usually conducted in the Inchconnachan suite although there are more intimate and outdoor options available too. One of my favourite weddings here was an outdoor ceremony. Before the wedding the couple had a ‘first look’ just around the corner from all the guests seated and ready. It felt almost naughty and cheeky but was such a wonderful private moment that it still makes me smile today.

The wedding team at the Loch Lomond Arms are pulling all the strings here but also providing distance when needed. It’s a venue that excels with the light touch. Kitti and Sophie are always on hand when you need them, very present before the wedding. As the day moves on, they become more and more background, understanding that the wedding day unfolds at its own pace.
Post ceremony, drinks are served, canapés shared and after a little mingling time –the photographer (me!) steps in and asks the couple which plan of action they want to employ. Pre wedding I’ll have fully discussed with you how you want the pictures to run. My Plan A is to get the wedding groups (parents, kids, in-laws and ‘outlaws’) all shot first, so they can relax and just enjoy the rest of the day going forward.

Then perhaps a little mingling time with your guest’s friends and family before a short walk into Luss for the ‘wow’ shots. Experience has taught me that there are a couple of ways to approach this. Normally we can just walk through the village. The residents of Luss are well used to weddings and any tourists will be absolutely thrilled to see a real Scottish Wedding (your own nationality doesn’t matter) in this amazing setting. I have always found that people are super obliging to brides and grooms. If however it’s the height of summer and Luss is packed, I might suggest some portraits within the grounds of the LLA and that we make our way into the village, after dinner.

Either way, your guests will be quite happy, drink in hand and enjoying both the LLA hospitality and the views of Glen Douglas and the hills that surround the venue.
On our return to the reception, its time for dinner. As if by magic the wedding team are there for you and then you realise that they didn’t go away, they just stepped back. You’ll be announced into dinner and, typically, the speeches will commence first before food. And my goodness the food – seasonal Scottish fare, wedding classics and fantastic desserts all paired with a superb drinks selection. This is where a wedding venue, that is also one of the top hotels in the area, really stands out – hospitality.

Much like the pace of your day – nothing feels rushed and the weddings at LLA tend to become very informal, very quickly. People break out to the outdoor seating, swap places at dinner and some guests may treat themselves with a post dinner meander into Luss. The whole day has a gentle flow to it and that can only be down to the professional soft touch of the staff.
As the fairy lights come on, you might want to freshen up before its time to get back to the suite and the party. You’ll find that the atmosphere has changed and that now there is a buzz about the place, almost as if the day has created its own momentum.
A key point about the LLA is that when the music starts, there’s plenty of room to party, but also space for those who’d prefer to chat, catch up, or cool off.

I’m also going to return to that sense of place and destination – because you have your own bubble in Luss, people stay longer because it feels good to be there. The wedding frequently is at the heart of a long weekend and this ‘party extension’ is a natural part of that. The absolute joy of being away from everything with friends and family and in this setting … its hard to beat.

The Loch Lomond Arms doesn’t isolate a wedding from the world. It’s very much part of the village, while still giving you a warm, secure, private base to bring all the elements of a traditional Scottish country wedding to life.
