Bride and groom walk the grounds at an Altskeith House wedding

Altskeith House Wedding Photography

Intimate weddings beside the water, with mountains at your door

Altskeith House sits on the shores of Loch Ard in The Trossachs, within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Think glassy water, a private shoreline and views that roll towards Ben Lomond. It’s a Scottish country house that feels secluded yet still within easy reach of Loch Lomond.

I’ve photographed weddings across the lochs for years and Altskeith is one of those rare venues where everything is on your doorstep. Ceremonies on the lawn by the water, portraits at the jetty and boathouse, and cosy evening photos in the house when the light fades.

Kind words from an Altskeith couple

We wanted relaxed photos that felt like us. Stuart made the whole thing easy from start to finish, planned around the weather and light, and somehow kept us calm while getting beautiful images by the water. Our families keep talking about the beach photos.

Why Altskeith House works so well for weddings

Lochside setting
Private shoreline, a jetty and long views across Loch Ard. It feels worlds away yet close enough for guests to travel with ease.

Flexible spaces

Ceremony on the lawn by the water, indoors in the house, or a mix of both. Drinks (and dancing) spill into the gardens when the sun is out, then back into the house for dinner and dance.

In the Loch Lomond National Park

Although Altskeith is on Loch Ard rather than Loch Lomond, it sits within the National Park. You get that same wild, cinematic landscape and quick access to nearby beauty spots if time allows.

On-site comfort

Getting ready in the house keeps everything simple. No travel gaps, no stress, and a calm start to the day.

Atmosphere
Country-house warmth with a proper Highland feel. It’s elegant without fuss and ideal for relaxed, natural photography.

Frequently asked questions — Altskeith House

Q: Where can we hold the ceremony?
Many couples choose the lawn by the loch for an outdoor ceremony. Indoor options in the house keep things simple if the forecast changes. You can do drinks on the grass then move back inside for dinner and dancing.

Q: How easy is it for guests to reach?
Altskeith sits within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park near Aberfoyle. It’s within easy reach of Loch Lomond and straightforward for Glasgow and Central Belt guests to get to by car or minibus.

Q: Are there good photo locations?
Yes. The shoreline, jetty, gardens and boathouse give you variety in any season. If we have time, there are nearby viewpoints within the National Park that work brilliantly for a short portrait loop.

Q: Anything else we ‘should’ know?
Top tip : Summer weddings – buy up as much Avon Skin So Soft as you can.
