Wedding Photography at Kirknewton Stables
A new venue for me with a couple who feel like old friends. I asked Nicola to tell the story of the day and find out a little more about this hidden gem of a venue and their Wedding Photography at Kirknewton Stables.
Tell us a little about your story: how you met, how you got engaged etc.
Chris and I first meet 7 years ago when I had just moved back from Glasgow and Chris came home from living in London. We were both on a night out in the big bright lights of Helensburgh…haha! Things moved fast, we moved in and got our Boxer dog, Cooper within the first year. As my birthday is so close to Christmas (23rd December), Chris always tries to make it extra special, in 2017 on my birthday Chris was taking me to the Dakota in Glasgow for a meal, or so I thought. We had a few drinks in the bar before being called to dinner, full 3 course meal, and for a change Chris was off his food, this is very out of character then after our desert Chris got up from his seat walked around the table and got on one knee and asked me to be his wife, to which I obviously said yes. I was desperate to call all the family and let them know but Chris convinced me to wait till we went back up to the bar and to my surprise he had booked out the champagne room with all our close friends and family to congratulate and have a party with us.
How did you find planning the wedding? Was it stressful or did you get to enjoy the build up?
We had a very busy run up to the wedding with work etc, but to be honest looking back we both enjoyed it, so glad that we were able to make everything the exact way we wanted and didn’t have to pick anything from a A,B,C option.
Could you tell me a little about your wedding suppliers? (dress, celebrant, flowers, venue, videographer) What made you choose these suppliers for your wedding and please give a shout out to anyone who went above and beyond? (not the photographer – he’s going to ask more glory hunting questions in a moment)
Dress – The Wedding Planner as you know we are both from Helensburgh and KJ has known me since forever. The Wedding Planner had to be my first stop and thankfully with Angela and KJ they got to know me and exactly what I was looking for, KJ even made my head piece! 😊
Registrar – Elaine Chricton, Elaine has been a family friend for years, we asked her, and she said yes and I couldn’t have asked for a better service, she also done a reading from her to us, that was very special.
Flowers – Flowers by Isla, I LOVE flowers and I knew that this was going to need to be a personal fit as well as loving the designs, Isla got to know us and I loved all her other work and she got the vision that I was looking for after many a Pintrest shared board!
Venue – Kirknewton Stables is just special, we knew that the barn idea was for us and it and when we went to view it took out break away on an early frosty morning, we just knew that a summers day would be amazing. Even when you and I had our meeting at Kirknewton a few weeks before the day to be able to sit in the grounds it was just fab!
Food Creations – Food they were just AMAZING, nothing was a problem we were able to have everything the way that we wanted the guys were both unbelievably great, I can’t sing these guys praises any louder they are just amazing and ALL of the staff at Food Creations they are just WOW!!

The Big Day!
How were you feeling on the day? You looked like you loved every moment of it, did you get to really enjoy it or were you quite nervous?
I was so excited and nervous all rolled into one, so much planning, so much love and attention to detail went into every part of our wedding I was just wanting to see it all come to life and hope that it was the way that we had planned it and it was even better!! One of the really important parts in the planning of our wedding was to make sure that we enjoyed it and I can honestly say I had the best day of my life, well weekend as the following day we were all back at the venue for a sports day and BBQ. LOVED IT!!! 😊
Can you give me a feeling about your day? What was the itinerary like?
As I don’t have my wedding book in front of me, I can’t tell you all the timings I can give you a wee point by point below,
Hairdresser and makeup, you (photographer) arrived, into the dress, cars arrived, Mum’s & Bridemaids into the VW Camper, Dad & I into the Beauford….. Then came our “I Do’s” followed by drinks and canapes
Pics with Gillian and yourself – Can I please just say Gillian was AMAZING she just knew what I was looking for before I started to look for it and she calmed me down with just a wee chat every now and then. FAB!!!!!
We were then called for dinner, The speeches – you heard then, they were something else! 😊 (edit: I can confirm – they were indeed!) Then the first dance with just fun and us being us together then Party, Party, Party – LOVED IT ALL!!!
What are some of your favourite memories from the day?
I honestly can’t pick – the whole thing was just the best and I already wish I could do it all again!!!
The Wedding Photography
What made you decide to choose Stuart for your pictures?
I found out about Stuart from The Wedding Planner, I had a look at your work, and I was honestly sold.
How would you describe working with 1500 Photography?
In one word – Effortless
What do you like most about your pictures?
You have captured all the moments that I remember so vividly, and the memories will fade over time but with every detail that you got I will never forget them!
Which pictures stand out to you most – any favourites?
I love the one that you caught with Poppy and I in the room before heading down (below), the ones during the ceremony then I am looking up at Chris and we both are just having a sec to look at each other and let each other know that we are good and this is the best day ever. The pic with my mum getting me into my dress, the one with both the mums and I in the room. The one I really love but sometimes feel bad because its of only me in the hotel holding onto the curtains and looking out the window, love it! From the back with my dad and I walking down the aisle and you have captured everyone’s expressions! I LOVE THEM ALL!!!
Final Question. What advice would you give future brides?
Enjoy it, if it’s not happened on the day as you were wanting, it’s not going to happen now so just try relax and remember you are doing this to be with the person that you want to spend the rest of your life with. Take a bit of time once you are just married and sit just the two of you and decompress and get ready to have the best day of your life!
What do you think of Nicolas day? I’d love to hear what you think of this amazing venue. And of course what you think of the surprise appearance of Cooper the doggo !
