Ruth and Daniel – Keavil House Wedding

I absolutely loved everything about Ruth and Dan’s Keavil House wedding. Our gorgeous bride Ruth is one of the most beautiful and stylish brides we’ve ever photographed and Daniel is one of those guys who feels like one of your best pals after 5 minutes in his company. One of the first things that struck us about the day was Ruth’s dress. Even still on the hanger in her bedroom, we could tell immediately that this was a special dress. We also had the absolute luxury of a first class hair and makeup team on the day – I never actually met them because they were finished packed and gone by the time we arrived. I cannot begin to tell you how much of a help that is to the photographer. Check out the pre-wedding shots below to see what a difference it makes when hair and makeup are finished their job on time.
We had a lovely humanist ceremony in the main ballroom in Keavil House before making our way out into the gardens for the pictures. This was our first visit to Keavil but hopefully not our last. It is such a bonus, time-wise when everything is taking place at the one location like this. Admittedly it is difficult to take a bad picture of Ruth but I have to say that Daniel was absolutely terrific in front of the camera too. It was great fun with the whole wedding having that relaxed ‘garden party ‘ feeling. Everyone had a lovely time (including us!)
It was also a \\day which had a couple of surprises too. First flower girl Lyla made a speech before the grooms and stole everyone’s heart, then in the evening, the couple had organised some ‘tribal’ entertainment in the shape of Clanidonia, the Glasgow based drumming band. As the couple themselves live in Abu Dhabi bringing a taste of highlands to the wedding was a real treat – not just for the guests but for the couple themselves. We asked Ruth what it was like organising a wedding from so far away :
I got my dress from my hometown in Edinburgh. It was designed by Lilliana Dabic at La Novia. She is amazing. She took components from two dresses and made it into the one dress. She is fantastic! My hair was one of my close friends Claire Callaghan. She is self-employed at clairecalhair but also works in a salon self-employed called Charisma Studio in Knightswood. She is so quick & super chatty but amazing at everything she does. Make up was done by a friend of a friend. She is actually a self-taught, self-employed makeup artist. Her name is Claire Reid. Her make up page is Claire Grace make up.
They are both super friendly, talented and on time haha! I was so surprised they were done so promptly, it was so nice though as I could sit down with some champagne and take it all in. My Pet peeve is lateness so I was so lucky with them.
We went for a ‘Hotel Package’ with Keavil House – which turned out to the best thing we could have opted for. Planning everything from Abu Dhabi was actually less stressful because of this. The package included all linen, silverware, canapés, reception drinks and meal drinks, chair sashes and covers, centrepieces and top table flowers, toastmaster, cake stand and knife. Having a florist as part of the package was such a godsend for us because we looked at her work and managed to get her booked for our flowers because she was so good. All we had to do was pick from a selection of centrepieces and then tell her our flower choices. The chair covers and sashes were also fab as all we had to do was pick a colour for sashes and that was it! She also has a site and that’s also where we got our ivory aisle runner and bay trees from. It takes so much pressure off as they dress the room all the time and know what looks good and what doesn’t so they can guide you. For the first time bride its ideal because I did not know where to start haha.
I would honestly recommend 1000% this kind of package for destination brides. Makes life so much easier.
