1500 Photography

Another new venue for 1500 Photography, this time The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour.

As has been a bit of a theme this year Caroline and Kenny’s wedding at the Tall ship had a ‘wee delay’ too. Unfortunately Carolines transport between her hotel and venue had a little difficulty, resulting in Caroline arriving 90 minutes late !!! However, the guest’s kept themselves entertained, (the unflappable) Kenny was kept fully informed and the only person who appeared to be nervous about the lateness was me !!

When Caroline did arrive though, she looked absolutely tremendous !! As the bridemaids entered to ‘Here come the Gilrs’, Caroline walked down the isle to the strains of Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’. The couple obviously really enjoyed themselves and had scattered the day with loads of small personal touches to add that little bit of extra magic to the day.

They were also were model subjects to photograph – nothing was too much bother for them and Caroline skillfully negotiated all the steep stairs between decks in her dress and heels.  Some of the images we captured are fantastic and I am really proud of them, especially as we were up against the clock to trying and get the day ‘back on track’ for the evening guests coming.

An interesting new venue, ace couple with bags of enthusiasm and some top drawer pictures.

All in all – a good day.

Julie and Grant are one of those couples that I just instantly clicked with, a really nice easy going couple with some good looks and an affable manner. We started at Julies parents house, before moving onto New Wellwynd Parish church in Airdrie before heading out to Houston House. Its been a number of years since I was at Houston House so the month before the wedding Julie, Grant, Gillian and I met up at the venue and had a walk about.

I am really glad we did as it meant I found a few, really cool spots to shoot in, and the couple got a good idea of where we could (and couldn’t) go for pictures. The day itself ran really well…..up to a point. Ally, the best man unfortunately had to stay behind at the church after the ceremony due to a car key mix up. This meant he was missing for a most of the key shots. Undeterred we got Gary, the usher, to stand in Allys spot in the group pictures and then photographed Ally when he arrived about 60 minutes later.

After a long time on the computer I came up with the result above – see what you think. Can you see the join ? Despite a little bit of a delay with the group pictures I am delighted with the shots of Grant and Julie, with the individual shots of Julie at the house being some of my favourites from this year…..and I haven’t even mentioned the champagne getting thrown about by Grants mum!!

Another new venue for 1500 to visit. In fact we are delighted to be the first photographers at a wedding staged at The Bothy in Glasgow’s West End. Ian and Eilidh are friends of Dan and Natalie (who feature in the banner picture on the blog, above) but the two weddings could not have been more different. As oppose to the wide open landscapes we had in Luss, Iain and Eilidh had the ‘urban chic’ look to their city wedding.

The feel and style of this wedding was really enjoyable and inspiring with everything from Eilidhs beautiful dress, the intimate ceremony and the stylish interior of The Bothy, all lending themselves to some terrific shots. Even the peeling and ‘rustic’ garage doors in the lane looked amazing. A great day with the cherry on the cake being a picture with all 60 guests crammed into the lane for a group shot. As the last image was taken, the rain came on and the stampede to get back inside started ……….

A really nice couple who were calm, relaxed and really great to work with on the day. I wish all weddings were this easy – thanks Eilidh and Ian

We are delighted to announce that our wedding from August last year – Josephine and John at St Andrews in the Square has been featured in this seasons Real Life Wedding magazine. 

I am really pleased that one of our weddings is being highlighted and I hope some of our pics can help showcase what an excellent venue St Andrews in the Square is.  My great thanks again to Josephine and John for their kind words about me in the article and for being such great sports on the day.

The final wedding we shot in 2008 and what a smashing day it was too.

Things could have got off to a smoother start right enough….. both bride and groom committed the cardinal sin of arriving late at Park Circus. As you can see the only ‘before’ shots of the bride and groom are slightly rushed !! After the ceremony however the rest of the day was excellent with the wedding party heading to One Devonshire Gardens for the reception. I have to say I am always impressed with the service and attention you get from this venue – simply outstanding. Less outstanding was the photographers request to get everyone outside for a mass group photo – this went down like a lead balloon as everyone knew how cold it was. But fair play to the guests, they all made the effort to get the shot for Bryan and Morven.

All in all with the excellent venue, great crowd of people and just a lovely couple – it was the ideal way to top off 2008 for 1500 Photography !!

And so it all kicks off again……..

Just an intimate affair to get the year started with Linda and John tying the knot at Crutherland House in East Kilbride.

There was a lot of fun on the day and despite the January weather we still managed to squeeze in one or two lovely shots. It was a splendid day and the ideal preparation for the coming years wedding photography.

Just for a bit of fun I’ve put up some of my favourite images from 2008.

This was a very special wedding for me.

Amanda, Paul and I hit it off right from the start. They were among the first people to book me and put their faith in 1500 Photography. Amanda had some brilliant ideas for how her wedding was going to look and feel, different to most weddings with an ‘Urban Chic’ vibe. We were going to start off at the house first, then onto Park Circus for the ceremony, Botanic Gardens for pictures and then The Universal in Sauchiehall Lane, for the reception.

I have been trying to write this blog entry for a while now, but I keep getting caught up in superlatives and mush when I talk about these guys. So I thought instead of me trying to put into words how great this day was for me – I would post Amandas perspective on her wedding pictures.

Paul and I are so lucky, we have the most glorious, unique and beautifully shot photographs of our special day, add to that two new treasured friends in Stuart and Gillian. From our first appointment we knew instantly that we could put our hopes and trust in Stuart and his creative ideas were just sublime.

His direction gave Paul and I endless confidence, his repoire with our guests was so wonderful, with everyone at great ease and big smiles. His interpersonal skills and friendly while responsive nature was fantastic, even when coordinating our party in their high spirits. (Yes champagne was involved!)

We especially enjoyed the picture that arrived as a screensaver on our phones to the next day, that we showed off with pride, while on honeymoon.

I can’t thank you enough, for the fantastic memories you have helped make for my husband and I. With great warmth, respect and gratitude always, Amanda.

Not bad, eh ? I have never had such a wonderful thank you in all my life. This was a wedding where I felt a real part of the day rather than an observer. To be caught up emotionally in their wedding was a very special exprience and perhaps that shows in the pictures too. I am immensely proud of these shots and am delighted to now have two great friends in Paul and Amanda.

The origonal post here disappeared, mysteriously…… so  here it is again.

We had a great day with Alix and Dave at the Barony Hall in Glasgow. After catching both parties getting ready at the Millenium Hotel, it was on to the stunning setting of the Barony. Alix looked absolutely beautiful, the hall looked amazing and David looked great in his morning suit (a very refreshing change for a Scottish groom)

There was a real connection the day, and I think it shows in the pictures. I am hughly grateful to Dave and Alix, not only for choosing me, but for all the effort they put into getting the pictures and their enthusiasm for the photography too. Thank you both.

*UPDATE* Every year I advertise in the Real Life Weddings magazine.I make up about 4/5 dummy adverts then show them to prospective bride and grooms, take votes and print the favourite. Dave and Alix’s advert was by far the favourite from this years selection.

I always knew Alix would be a stunning bride, but who knew Dave would be model material too !!

Josephine and John recently had their wedding at St Andrews in the Square. A cracking venue for a cracking couple. These guys were amongst the first couples to book 1500 Photography and we hit it off right from the get go. I have never laughed so much at a pre wedding meeting than with these two and the laughter carried through onto the day and into the pictures.

Im really proud of the pictures that John and Josephine helped me achieve. As you can see we stayed on a little later and got an brilliant shot of St Andrews in the Square floodlit (eventually ! – the sun refused to go down !!!) Thank you both for being such good sports.
