St Andrews in the Square wedding – Kathryn and Paddy

Remember all that snow in December? Travel chaos, roads blocked and temperatures of -10?

Well, thats when Kathryn and Paddy got married. They had their wedding at St Marys in Duntocher before making their way to St Andrews in the Square for their reception. We started the day with Kathryn and the girls at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow, we then made our way onto possibly the best example of a religious ceremony in Scotland I have seen for a long time.

Conducting the ceremony jointly were Rev Ian Miller and Father Joe Mills – a truly mixed marriage (for west central Scotland anyway!!) Not only were both faiths treated with great respect and due reverence but the personalities of the two clergy meant that the ceremony was light, humorous and welcoming to all.

Its at this point I need to doff my cap, especially to Kathryn, for donning the wellies and letting us shoot the fantastic pictures above in -6° temperatures just as the sun was setting at Glasgow Green. Then it was onto the Trongate for the now famous traffic shot. Again my grateful thanks to the couple as this is not actually the most glamorous areas of the city but they braved the traffic, ‘colourful’ passers by and weather to give me one of the outstanding pictures in my 2010 portfolio. Credit also to the lovely Sheila who assisted on this occasion by hiding behind the dress while I directed the couple via the mobile phone.

The coldest wedding I have ever shot with one of the warmest couples.

A truly memorable day……… 1500 Photography

1500 Photographys “Shot of the Year 2010″ – The Winners !!!!

Well after a record breaking 3,756 votes I am delighted to announce the winners of this years ‘Shot of the Year’ are Emma and John Feechan with 1156 votes.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs F, your framed print is ordered and will be waiting for you next time you are up to visit Loch Lomond (maybe as a ‘family’ this time).  I do love this shot but have to admit my abiding memory of  taking this picture is the busload of Japanese tourists at my back as we were shooting. How Emma held it together i do not know !!!

In second place, with a staggering 922 votes were Kathryn and Paddy.

To put things in perspective last years entire poll pulled in 552 votes. I am overwhelmed at the response these two images received. So I think it is only fitting that Kathryn and Paddy will also receive a framed print for all their efforts and campaigning. Their shot at the Trongate in Glasgow was possibly one of the most nerve wrecking shots I have attempted. A 15 second exposure while leaning off a 6th floor balcony in -6° temperatures is recommended everyone who thinks wedding photography is ‘easy money’.

And finally in 3rd place with a very respectable 224 votes came Kate and Paul (well specifically Kate anyway) with this lovely shot taken in the bridal suit at Cameron House. This shot was pretty much inspired by Kate who wanted to replicate a shot of a silhouette from Coleen Rooneys wedding – our twist on that image brought about this stunning shot.

My grateful thanks to all who voted, as I said I am overwhelmed at the response. Congratulations to our winners and congratulations to all of our featured couples. I am so glad you all chose 1500 Photography to shoot your wedding and allow us to produce images like these. Thank you – Stuart

House for an Art Lover Wedding – Carly & Andy

While we are waiting for the results of the poll to come in, perhaps I can share some shots from Carly and Andys wedding at House for an Art Lover in Glasgow. This was a lovely wedding to shoot with such a nice couple. We started off at Carlys mums house which (for a lovely change) is just round the corner from mine! Carlys stunning dress was from Glitterati and looked absolutely beautiful (as did Carly)

When we arrived at House for an Art Lover James was, once again, on hand to make sure the day ran absolutely to plan.

We even got a lucky break with the weather. A lovely day, great venue, terrific couple and even a Scottish footballing legend to make the day complete. Wonderfull !!

1500 Photography – Shot of the Year 2010

Its that time of year again. Time to vote for……

1500 Photography’s “Wedding Shot of the Year”

Have a look through the images and pick your two favourites.  Obviously many of the couples involved will want to vote for themselves, this is absolutely fine as long as you remember and cast another vote too which will help ascertain the best picture taken by 1500 in2010. This was really really hard for me to only pick only one shot from each wedding as there are so many that I love, so my apologies if your own personal favourite isnt there.
The winners  will not only receive the ‘kudos’ of being voted the most popular picture of 2010 but they will also receive a framed 10×8 of the image and find themselves gracing the front page of our website.

Pass this link onto friends, family and colleagues and get as many votes as you can and good Luck !!

The poll closes on the 1st of March 2010.

The Duck Bay Hotel, Loch Lomond – Neil and Jade

Neil and Jade got married at the Duck Bay Hotel right on the banks of Loch Lomond.

I have to say that when we arrived at Jades house beforehand she was the calmest bride-to-be I have ever came across on the day of her wedding. Its not often a girl in full make-up, wedding dress and perfect hair asks if your sure you dont want a cup of tea !! Best friend and ‘Man of honour’  Ross was also on hand to help soak up and nerves. Things were slightly more tense at the Duck Bay with the lads (but isnt that always the way?) However the legendary Mrs Thomson was on hand at Duck Bay to make sure everything was running as smooth as possible (usual)

Because Duck Bay is situated so near the water there can be the unfortunate side effectf o the surround grounds retaining any rainfall for a while. This meant finding a different areas to shoot our groups and couples shots at.  The unlikely ‘haunted house’ just along the road from the hotel proved to be an idea backdrop for some of the shots with the overspill carpark (shot 2 above) working really well for us as too. There is a maxim in photography – its not what you look at, its how you ‘see’ it. Obviously it also helps to have Loch Lomond right next to you………..

Lyndsay & Andrew – St Marys Kirkintilloch/Winnock Hotel, Drymen

What a lovely day this was. Great couple, really nice attendants and two lovely families.

As per our standard service we started the day at Lyndsays mums house getting those final preparation pictures before we made our way for the wedding at St Marys in Kirkintilloch. After a lovely ceremony there we headed to Balmaha for the couples shots before heading back to the Winnock Hotel for the reception. I love shooting down at this spot in Balmaha.  There is a special quality in pictures when you take shots near the water.

I know I often spend a lot of my time on here gushing about how great my couples are but I reckon I must be one of the luckiest photographers in Britain. Lyndsay and Andrew were just so nice and the bridesmaids (esp Jo) were so helpful. The last shot in the series above has to be the last one though, the shot immediately afterwards has Lyndsays garter wrapped around her foot! The garter then spent the rest of the day in Andrews sporran. Unfortunately the hankie/garter mix up we were all hoping for never materialised.

Wedding at House for an Art Lover – Carrie Anne & Alan

Wow – what a dress!!

I guess thats the first thing that springs to mind when I think about Carrie Anne and Alan ‘s wedding at House for an Art Lover. But it shouldn’t be. There was so much more to enjoy from the day.

We started off at Mar Hall where Carrie Anne was putting her finishing touches together. It is as well we did,  as Carrie Annes Mum ripped her dress zip. Fortunately Gillian swung into action and helped mend the dress with the aid of the 1500 Photography sewing kit (who said that textiles degree was going to waste?!)

I havent been to HFAL for a few years so it was fantastic to see James still looking after the brides there and to see that the standards of the venue have been kept so high.  Sadly we were restricted to indoor photography only as the weather took a nasty turn during the ceremony but since the building is lovely inside we weren’t short of options for pictures. However that didnt stop us from getting cracking shot after cracking shot with a brilliant couple in a great location.

Weddings at Cameron House – Emma & John

Back to my favourite venues -Luss Church to Cameron House.

Rather than me rattle on about what a nice wedding this was why dont I leave it to the couple themselves?

Hey Stuart,

It’s been a while since we spoke, so just wanted to send you a quick email to thank you for the fantastic photos taken at our wedding. Massively impressed with the quality of them and some of them in particular (the window reflection/some on the pier/speeches/inside cam house) are exceptional.  We’ll be recommending you to all our friends and family as the experience was made a whole lot better having you and Gillian there as part of the day. Just fantastic.   Cheers for a great day and hopefully we’ll see you and Gillian again on our trips to Loch Lomond and the West coast.

John

(p.s. I noticed you edited Gillian’s arm out of the Luss pier shot holding Emma’s veil – clever stuff! Haha)

We absolutely love them and have spent all weekend showing our friends and family who also think they are fab! We can’t get enough of the photos and the DVD was a nice surprise, we’ve watched it several times and the music selected really matches our taste. We’d like to thank you very much for your hard work as the photos have far exceeded our expectations, they are truly wonderful and once we finalise our album know that it will be something we treasure for the rest of our lives.

Thank You,  Emma

A great day. Even complete with a squad of (very polite) Japanese tourists who all got their own pictures of Emma and John on Luss Pier. Brilliant!!!

Millenium Hotel Glasgow Wedding – Gillian & Paul

Another really nice couple for 1500 to photography.

Gillian and Paul had their wedding at the Millenium Hotel right in the very heart of Glasgow. Since the hotel is slap bang in the middle of the city Gillian and Paul thought it would be nice to head out to Kelvingrove Park for the pictures.

On out return to the hotel we used some  of the more striking features of the Millenium to give us some really great shots. Gillian and Paul were fantastic on the day, so friendly and willing and it shows in the pictures.

The last shot in the selection here is one of my favourites of the year!

Burnhouse Manor Wedding Photography – Lisa and William

This was my first Burnhouse Manor wedding for a few years. I was delighted to be back to shoot Lisa and Williams wedding on a breezy August afternoon. We started the day at Lisa’s mums house which was just around the corner from where the boys were getting ready. This let us catch the madness at both locations !!

Then it was onto St Convals before heading down to Burnhouse Manor. Once there we took 10 minutes out from the day in the bridal suit and photographed Lisa and William with their young 3  kids. This guaranteed that we got great family pictures during the wedding but without any of the stress and hassle of trying to arrange the kids during the formal shots. After that the kids could go play and the couple didnt have to worry about getting them in the pictures anymore. Lisa looked absolutely beautiful and William was (obviously) a great laugh keeping Lisa amused in all the pictures.

A great day and a really lovely couple.
